APP ASPIRE Program for Professional Development
The APP ASPIRE Program for Professional Development is designed to recognize and support outstanding Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their professional endeavors.
This program provides reimbursement for professional development expenses. Award amounts and the number of recipients may vary each fiscal year depending on available funding and the number of qualified applicants.

Up to $1,000
Per award (maximum of 2 awards per fiscal year per applicant)
Number of Awards
10 awards per year
Awarded quarterly (3–4 recipients per cycle)
Eligible Expenses
- Conference registration fees
- Professional development resources
- Expenses for representing UVA Health at professional forums
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time UVA Health or UPG employee
- Holds valid APP credentials
- Meets or exceeds expectations in recent review
- Not eligible: Part-time, wage, contractor, traveler
Reimbursement Cycles & Application Deadlines
Applications are accepted on a quarterly basis. Reimbursement recipients will be notified via email within 4–6 weeks of the cycle deadline.

How to Apply
All applicants must submit the online application form and upload the required documentation.
Once selected for reimbursement, you must request your funds through one of the following internal systems based on your employment type:
- Medical Center Employees: Use EPRO
- UPG Employees: Use DocuSign
Tuition Reimbursement (Medical Center Employees Only)
If you are requesting tuition assistance, you must submit the request through Workday via the Education Benefit request process.
⚠️ If you have already used the $5,250 provided by UVA HR for tuition, any additional reimbursement will be considered taxable under IRS guidelines.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application Requirements
To be considered for the APP ASPIRE Reimbursement Program, applicants must submit the following:
- Completed online application form
- Responses to all application questions (maximum combined word count: 1,000 words)
- One letter of recommendation from a supervisor, colleague, or mentor
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- If applicable: proof of enrollment or acceptance into an accredited educational program OR a copy of your abstract/presentation/project
- Original receipts for all expenses to be reimbursed
Application Questions
As part of your application, you will be asked to respond to the following prompts (combined word count limit: 1,000 words):
- Significant achievements or contributions in your current role:
Describe key accomplishments in your current APP role. Be sure to attach your current CV as supporting documentation. - Reimbursement goals and objectives:
Explain how you plan to use the reimbursement to further your career and positively impact patient care. - Impact on patient care and healthcare delivery:
Share a specific example of a time when you directly improved patient care or the healthcare delivery system. - Community engagement and/or patient advocacy efforts:
Describe a time when you went above and beyond in community engagement or patient advocacy. - Professionalism:
Provide an example of how you demonstrated exemplary professionalism in your role as an APP.
Selection Process
A selection committee will review all applications and select reimbursement recipients based on the eligibility criteria and responses to the application questions. Selected recipients will be notified via email no later than 4–6 weeks after the deadline of the cycle in which they applied.
Application Deadline
Please ensure that your completed application form and all required documents are submitted by the deadline for the current reimbursement cycle. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
